What really destroys a person is not making mistakes. It’s losing the ability to recognize them.
What really destroys an organization is not external enemies. It’s a system where no one dares to tell the truth.
Enslaving others is an extraordinarily stupid act. This isn’t even about morality — it’s pure inefficiency. It is the lowest-efficiency, highest-risk game humanity has ever devised.
Whether controlling a partner, an employee, or a hundred million “consumables,” the underlying logic is the same: living on borrowed reality. That’s why, whether on a micro or macro scale, the starting point of their collapse is identical.
Today, we deconstruct this seemingly clever game of enslavement — why it’s愚蠢, and why it ultimately drags everyone down together.
01 The Double-Edged Chains: The Enslavers Are Shackled Too
The common perception is that enslavement is a one-way whip: the master laughs, the slave wails. The master profiteers — right?
But the chains of enslavement are always two-way in reality. They lock the slave’s ankles, but they also hang heavy around the master’s neck.
The foundation of a slave owner’s rule is not the hardness of their fists, but the monopoly on interpretation and definition — “What I say is truth.” This power is addictive. Once possessed, no one escapes its pull.
What’s the price?
From then on, you are only “the master,” no longer an ordinary person. To maintain control, you must sever the slave’s connections to the outside world, constantly on guard, constantly suppressing. You cannot show fatigue, weakness, or admit fault. You must be eternally right. No second takes.
The side effect of this perpetual performance: gradual loss of touch with reality, and a profoundly distorted self-perception.
We don’t need to look at distant dictators. Consider a recent business case — Jia Guolong, the founder of Xibei.
02 Case Study 1: Jia Guolong — A Business Tycoon Marinated in Flattery
A top-tier entrepreneur who built his empire from nothing, yet his behavior is strangely detached. Customer complaints about meals are dismissed as “evil conspiracy theories.” He grandly produces what he believes is exonerating evidence, only to plunge himself into a PR abyss, then acts wronged — as if the world is conspiring against him.
Is this apparent foolishness because Jia Guolong himself is stupid?
Far from it. His entrepreneurial history shows: execution ability, reaction speed, and tenacity far beyond ordinary people. He’s smart, calculating, and ruthless.
So why does such a figure repeatedly make elementary mistakes — even drawing sympathy from rivals?
Because he’s been marinating too long in a vat of “I am supreme.”
When every word he utters is hailed as “profound vision,” every action celebrated as “strategic genius,” even his bathroom inspirations praised as “heights ordinary people could never reach” — when this flattery seeps into the bone marrow, the sense of reality dissolves. Self-perception warps completely.
Jia Guolong sees a world that no longer aligns with the one everyone else inhabits. Brilliant moves within his closed ecosystem become laughable public fiascos.
This is the backlash of the enslavement system: you can define others, but you will be reverse-defined by that very power. Stare into the abyss, and the abyss stares back. Countless brilliant figures across history have ended up incomprehensibly stupid. The reason is simple:
Those who define others are, in turn, defined by them.
03 Information Collapse: When “Win-ology” Meets Reality
Magnify the above logic ten-thousand-fold to the macro level. What happens?
When a system monopolizes all interpretive power, it enters collective stupidity mode. The organization must define not just one person, but everyone, everywhere. To maintain the “sole truth” persona, interpretive power evolves into something we call “Win-ology” (Yingxue).
The core creed of Win-ology: even if reality is collapsing, the organization is still marching from victory to victory.
The grassroots, punished for telling the truth, write disaster reports as “a million catties per acre.” Middle management adds more water to already watered-down figures. At the top, it becomes “an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity unseen in five millennia.” The master’s daily briefings are pure positive energy. Every word he hears praises his brilliance — even passing bathroom thoughts are lauded as genius.
Thus, he confidently directs a war that has already been lost in reality — but he never knows it.
At this moment, the master becomes the most isolated, clueless person in the entire system.
No discussion of Win-ology is complete without Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf — Saddam Hussein’s foreign minister, famously known as “Comical Ali.” His masterpiece: with American tanks just a few hundred meters from his press conference, he announced with a straight face: “The infidels are surrendering in droves, otherwise they will be burned in the streets of Baghdad.”
Ridiculous? Absolutely. Stupid? Not at all. He was simply practicing Win-ology with complete integrity.
The extreme of Win-ology is like jumping off Mount Everest: at the moment of launch, you feel like you’re flying, conquering gravity. But the laws of physics are not polite to anyone. The gravitational pull awaits below.
This “gravitational pull” is the moment reality shatters the illusion. It could be Jia Guolong’s PR disaster. It could be Iraqis jubilantly toppling Saddam’s statue. Or it could be that night in 2022 — when Nancy Pelosi’s charter plane landed at Songshan Airport against all expectations.
That night, countless people couldn’t sleep. What they thought was “catching a turtle in a jar” turned out to be them playing the turtle.
Ultimately, the enslaved are shocked to discover: their masters are all bark and no bite; and the masters are equally shocked to find: their slaves were never truly loyal.
This is the first level of collapse in the enslavement system: starting with Win-ology, accelerating in a狂欢 of delusion, only to crash headlong into the bleeding-out of reality. And once that bleeding begins, everything previously borrowed by Win-ology comes back with compound interest. Whatever you “won” through boasting, you lose back many times over.
04 Functional Collapse: From Going Blind to Going Useless
If Win-ology makes you blind, the next stage makes you useless.
A common fantasy: if I could enslave a superhuman laborer, wouldn’t I take off instantly?
Pure delusion. A mentally healthy, self-consistent, highly capable person cannot be enslaved. The only way is to first destroy their personality, turning them into a useless good-for-nothing. And a useless good-for-nothing can’t lift you up — they can only drag you through the mud.
Thus, in any enslaving relationship, the master must constantly crush, humiliate, and force the slave into incompetence — their own incompetence becomes their safety. What do naturally smart people do? They self-neuter — even if they aren’t useless, they pretend to be.
In The Three-Body Problem, there’s a passage about technicians in a certain era: when the leader said “go east,” they would desperately go west. Why? To appear incapable despite good intentions — to be seen as a useless mediocrity unworthy of being assigned to sensitive, dangerous core positions.
From an individual perspective, this is survival wisdom. But the popular image of enslavement is “a lion leading a pack of wolves into battle.” The reality of enslavement is a foreman dragging a gang of time-wasting, fake-incompetent deadweights across a wasteland. And over time, these deadweights become even more useless.
On the macro level, this phenomenon has a name — the Wafangdian Phenomenon.
05 Case Study 2: Wafangdian — The Inevitability of Technological Degradation
The Wafangdian Phenomenon describes how certain advanced foreign technologies, once transplanted into specific soils, inevitably degrade in quality and capability. Same blueprints. Same machines. Radically different outcomes.
The term originates from a advanced bearing factory built by the Japanese in Wafangdian, Dalian. After Japan’s defeat, the new operators saw quality steadily decline. Later, Soviet aid provided a brief lift — but Soviet technology itself was already a “Wafangdian version” of Western technology.
A Soviet electric razor offers an unforgettable user experience: looks identical to its Western counterpart, but using it feels like a crowd plucking your beard one hair at a time with tweezers. One can’t help but exclaim: true to the big brother, so full of socialist warmth.
When Sino-Soviet relations soured, Soviet technical aid withdrew. Wafangdian bearing quality raced downhill without looking back.
This degradation has nothing to do with race, culture, or IQ — East Germany was also a “Wafangdian.” The root is purely about systems.
When a system only rewards “red armbands who purge people,” not engineers who fix machines; when “political reliability” always outweighs professional competence — Wafangdianization is not an accident. It’s a natural, inevitable law.
Some might think the USSR or Wafangdian is ancient history. Let’s take a recent example. At the start of last year, a concept exploded globally, promising to “disrupt Silicon Valley.” Just one year later, who still mentions it?
Some things are simply inevitable.
06 Final Reckoning: When Stores Run Dry, Everyone Gets Buried Together
Many naive analysts of enslavement systems assume: as long as the master has guns and whips, the game can go on forever.
But they overlook the most basic fact: the cost of maintaining fear and lies is extremely high.
On the micro level, to control slaves, the master must undermine human connections, turning each slave into an isolated island. The consequence: trust between people is reduced to shifting sand.
On the macro level, this means social coordination costs rise infinitely. When society runs on mutual harm and suspicion, contracts are worthless, law is a toy — who would be stupid enough to actually create wealth? That would be painting a target on your own back.
Thus, all smart people understand: wealth creation is a dead end — better to become a bandit, now that’s a career with prospects!
When the increments disappear and存量 is carved up, the critical moment arrives — “gaslighting” no longer works. The master has no chips left, not even the scraps to balance factions.
At this point, the very “red armbands” the master cultivated — those who tore into their own kind to prove loyalty, the most morally unmoored people in the system — will turn around and use everything the master taught them to tear into the old organization, with a thousand times the intensity.
This is the price of enslavement: if you insist on being “the one and only truth in the universe,” you automatically become the one and only scapegoat.
Whether he likes it or not, all the unpaid debts, unemployment, and despair of the world will converge into a force of reckoning, charging with the very slaves he bred toward that “sole truth.”
07 Case Study 3: Ceaușescu’s Last Day
Nicolae Ceaușescu, the “father figure” of Romania, was ultimately executed by the very elite troops he trusted most.
When the moment of collapse comes, the master discovers: the professionals who could fix things were destroyed long ago in his own purges — because they were “politically unreliable.” The “loyalists” around him are either useless beyond obedience or quietly sharpening their knives.
The most terrifying thing about the enslavement game: there is no exit button.
It begins with the trampling of human dignity. It ends with everyone buried together.
Epilogue
What truly destroys a person is not making mistakes.
It is: losing the ability to recognize mistakes.
What truly destroys an organization is not external enemies.
It is: a system where no one dares to speak the truth.
To enslave others is to prepare your own tomb. No winners. Only sacrificial pawns.
